An M/HF Lo-Rez coupling (62 in.dia., 300 RPM, 15,000 HP) isolating an Ingersoll-Rand (UK) reciprocating compressor in hydrogen service is currently being refurbished. A set of main springs, dampers and limit stops have been shipped to a refinery in Indonesia, where three M coupling have been in service since 1982.
The archive photo shows company president Ted Spaetgens, P.Eng. in 1963 next to a similar M-size coupling on the way to Sumitomo in Japan.
Lo-Rez flexible steel-spring couplings are avilable in 13 sizes, from 8 inch to 65 inch diameter, with a range of torsional stiffess ratings that permit "tuning" the system to reduce torsional stresses to a minimum.

With the latest shipment of 60 dampers, production of the Model 5.4.1 Viscous Torsional Damper has now surpassed 3,000 units. The smallest damper (5.4 in.diameter) produced by Lo-Rez  to date, the damper is used to control torsional vibrations in 240 hp piston engines for small aircraft. Quality control is paramount, and dampers are individually tested for flight rating before shipment. Lo-Rez make viscous torsional dampers up to 50 in. diameter.

Lo-Rez recently reviewed the performance of its I2/HF double row-steel spring coupling at Jedney, B.C. This coupling exceeds the client's expectations, and has now logged over 110,000 operating hours since installation in late 1993, with not a single coupling main spring failure!
The Lo-Rez I2/HF double row-coupling and Model 8RE-2 Torque Limiter provide exceptional low-frequency isolation in the power train, while transmitting up to 5500 hp to an ARIEL JGC/6 natural gas compressor, driven by a SOLAR gas turbine through a LUFKIN Model NDLS 390 16.56:1 gear reducer. A Lo-Rez Viscous Torsional Damper is located on the gear box secondary shaft to control higher-frequency torsional excitations. The system operates from 800 to 1000 rpm.
